Assignment 2 : Looking Back

Disinformation is false or inaccurate information that is spread deliberately. It is synonymous with and sometimes called Black propaganda. It may include the distribution of forged documents, manuscripts, and photographs, or propagation of malicious rumors and fabricated intelligence. Disinformation should not be confused with misinformation, information that is unintentionally false.

In architecture of HBP, disinformation problem occurs in many ways, and it happens all the time.

Before we entering university, there had been a period where we all were confused in what course to take. During that time, architecture this course is being ‘mythicize’ as a promising course, where after we graduated, we would be an architect, with high income, leads in a design groups, and would not have a problem in finding a job.

As for the course, it had been categorized as a course of design, thus in my mind, the course is all about design, draw and design!

However, after I entered the university and took the architecture course, I quickly found out that it wasn’t totally true.

From the course itself, design though plays an important role, but before we get to design, we were required to learn to follow the rules of buildings, learn to draw it the way lecturers wanted us to draw. This had cause the students to stuck in the box, and had limit the creativity that can be develop throughout the time.

End up this course had produce some graduates who are only good at designing standard building for a housing plan. Which is why we always saw the almost same kind of design at some new built housing areas.

Besides. The situation I mentioned above, had caused the students to submit their works in traditional way, only few of the students are manage to create some unique design of their submission board.

The lecturer who were in charge of critic session have to be responsible in some scene in my opinion. Some of them were too traditional minded where they cant accept student’s new ideas, they wanted student to have a case study before design process, but they still would reject student’s design if they cant see the connection between the design and the case study. In this case, I could use a quote from a English drama series, where the actor says that “just because u dint see it, doesn’t means that it is not there.

Some of the lecturer are simply dint really listen to student’s mind, they just get a quick looking at their work, and judge student’s work from their own angle.

On the other hand, after we entered the university, we only get to learn that this industry is not so excellent as we imagine. It is heavily influenced by the world economy. Once the economy is dropped, so does the human resource needed in this field, cause during economy crisis, construction is 1 of the field that would feel its impact first. Many of the project would be held pause, or even canceled.

Besides that, nowadays the architect no longer has the really lead in a design group. There are project manager where they in charge of the progress of the whole design group’s progress and the construction site too. Other than that, government had imply a lot of laws and rules to obey compared to few decades ago, where architect had fewer rules to follow, thus they can produce some unique and esthetical design.

Recently, sustainability this word had become a famous and hottest issue all over the place. But, how many people out there are really understood about it? This is another disinformation where all the people keep promote about the benefits from the sustainable design.
But the world is fair, wherever there is a good side for something, there are bad side of it, too. Few of us had leant about what is really occurred in those so-called sustainable building.
Besides, in real life, there are still a costing this issue to overcome before u get to design a sustainable building.

In my opinion, there are some ways to eliminate these disinformation.
Firstly, the information about the course had to be accurately being told to those fresh graduates. They can organize some talks, invite lecturers from different university to the school and give them the info they needs, and help them understand the real world.

Secondly, students in the university are needed to be more exposed to the real world, so that they can be involved in the real world issue, so that they can see how things work. The 2 months industrial training in my opinion is too short for a student to learn enough about the working world.
